Quality Engineer

Position Description – This position is responsible for providing leadership and support on assigned programs and projects ensuring that the Company’s products are manufactured in accordance with customer specifications and Company quality requirements. Serves as a liaison between customers, vendors and the Company on quality related issues.

Functions/Responsibilities

  • Promote quality achievement and performance improvement throughout the organization.
    • Maintain up to date knowledge of IATF & ISO/TS 16949 quality systems that all C&U plants are certified to.
    • Prepare and present quality performance results to C&U Americas and C&U China operations.
    • Prepare, present, and train team members on quality improvements for C&U Americas and C&U China operations.
  • Assist with Development, implementation, communications and maintaining a quality plan to bring the Company’s Quality Systems and Policies into compliance with customer and industry quality system requirements.
  • Effectively interact with Production and Development teams to maintain product supply and help introduce new products
    • Hold meetings with our Sales, Customer Service, Application Engineers, R&D, and Manufacturing Production teams to maintain product supply and help introduce new products.
    • Lead our internal APQP meetings with these teams
    • Attend our customer APQP meetings. This requires maintaining meeting records, preparation and submission of all required quality documents, and communicating all requirements back to all teams.
  • Work with purchasing and R&D staff to review quality requirements for external suppliers.
    • Assist with supplier development and control by reviewing suppliers PPAP, drawings, data, etc.
    • Visit suppliers and perform annual quality audits as specified in the QMS.
    • Visit/work with target suppliers in need of improvement.
  • Ensure tests and procedures are properly understood, carried out and evaluated and that product modifications are documented, evaluated and approved as necessary.
    • Assist with overseeing that our lab technicians are following procedures and proper measurement techniques on the lab equipment, documenting records as required, and testing is done as required.
    • Coordinate and manage our customer’s annual requirements with R&D and C&U Americas Engineering.
  • Lead assigned day-to day quality efforts (PPAP, Audits, Reporting, CQIs, Internal Quality Issues, Incoming Inspections, etc.).
  • Write technical and management systems reports.
    • Perform detailed analysis and write reports for our customer’s validation, testing, warranty, etc.
    • Prepare and present technical reports to our customer for proper measurement techniques, products handling, products installations and disassembly, etc.
  • Bring together staff of different disciplines and driving the group to plan, formulate and agree on comprehensive quality procedures.
  • Assist with the management and maintaining the Company’s quality inspection and product release programs for incoming finished goods.
  • Consider the applicable environmental, health and safety standards.
  • Assist in defining quality procedures in conjunction with operating staff.
  • Set up and maintain controls and documentation procedures.
    • Review our customers ‘supplier quality manuals’ customer specific requirements for our products requirements as pertain to: dimensions special characteristics, data submissions, minimum process capabilities, markings, materials, APQP, PPAP, Packaging, etc.
    • Maintain and submit REACH, RoHS, Prop 65, SVHC documents.
  • Liaise with customers’ auditors and ensure effective execution of corrective action and compliance with customers’ specifications.
  • Assist with the preparation of clear QA documents (8D, 5 why, PPAP Control Plan PFMEA, etc.) as required.
  • Identify relevant quality-related training needs and deliver training.
  • Must be aware of statutory and regulatory requirements

Competencies

  • Excellent written and verbal communication / presentation skills
  • Demonstrated experience communicating technical information
  • Application engineering diversity (Industrial, automotive, and distribution) is a plus.
  • Computer skills required: Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Self-starter and good team player

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Quality Management and/or Mechanical Engineering.

Experience

  • 5-10 years prior experience in Quality Assurance for an industrial/automotive product manufacturer.

Reporting

The Quality Engineer A position reports directly to the Quality Manager
