Director of Engineering

Position Description – Director of Engineering manages and directs all aspects of engineering activities within the organization. The position ensures all engineering projects, initiatives, and processes are in conformance with the organization’s established objectives and policies. The position utilizes best practice engineering methods and provides expert technical guidance for the engineering department, C&U Americas organization, C&U Group, and our customers.

Functions/Responsibilities

  • Strategic planning functions including department’s role in the company
    • Develop department goals and objectives
  • Formulate department organization structure and update as business dictates
  • Oversee employee training and development in areas of weakness for employees and C&U’s capabilities
    • Formulate and drive long-term objectives, innovation, standardization, process integrity and performance indicators that support the company’s goals
    • Lead and direct the engineering team in the management and delivery of project workload to most efficiently meet quality standards and deadlines. This includes resource planning, staff deployment and project execution.
    • Establish and monitor professional performance goals for individuals and the team utilizing company’s performance management system.
    • Identify and define new product opportunities, in line with company direction.
  • Monthly/Annual Results Reporting
    • Prepare engineering department expense budget with Controller; and then monitor and control spending to meet budget objectives.
    • Update Engineering and Quality monthly results, dashboard and any other reports deemed necessary to manage the business.
  • Bearing expertise
    • Oversee complete basic calculations for bearing selection, fit, clearance, life, etc.
    • Lead sample activity, drawing review, and inspection
    • Solve customer and internal problems
    • Create design validation plans (DVPs)
    • Understand bearing failure modes for customer applications
    • Oversee bearing failure analysis
  • RCI and RSB technical oversight for correctness and meets application requirements
  • Quality Management
    • Oversee all quality related activities (internal and external) and related improvements / corrective actions
  • Must be aware of statutory and regulatory requirements

Education

  • This position requires a 4-year engineering degree
  • Preferably a Masters degree in Engineering

Experience

  • 15+ years’ experience in engineering, design, and /or R&D
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience managing direct reports
  • Bearing product and industry knowledge

Reporting

The Director of Engineering position reports to the President

Physical Demands

Must be capable to…

  • Sit for extended periods of time
  • Full use of a computer and keyboard
  • Minimal lifting of fifteen pounds or less
  • Travel up to 25%, as required
