Position Description – C&U Bearings is seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Test Technician to support our product testing and validation operations. In this role, you will work closely with Test Engineers to execute bearing test procedures, compile technical data, and maintain high-performance test equipment. Key Responsibilities
- Machine Operation & Data Collection: Set up and operate mechanical test machines under the guidance of Engineers. Compile, record, and organize accurate test data for engineering analysis.
- Component Fabrication & Specimen Prep: Fabricate custom test components and specimens using lathes, mills, drill presses, and basic shop tools. Grit blast, clean, prep, and bond bearing materials as directed.
- Test Setup & Preliminary Evaluation: Efficiently assemble, configure, and break down mechanical and material test setups according to engineering instructions. Perform initial visual and physical evaluations on post-test specimen.
- Equipment Maintenance & Overhaul: Perform routine preventative maintenance, calibrations, repairs, and full overhauls on hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical subsystems across existing test rigs.
- New Equipment & System Support: Assist with the assembly, wiring, and troubleshooting of new test equipment while identifying opportunities to improve shop layout and system efficiency.
- Safety & Workplace Standards: Execute all operational and maintenance tasks safely and responsibly, maintaining reliable attendance to support fast-paced lab schedules.
Competencies
- Proficient with precision tools: calipers, micrometers, torque wrenches, scales, ovens, and presses.
- Proficient in basic mathematical calculations, accurate measurements, and MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Must be able to read/comprehend, write, communicate orally, gather, and organize data/
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a team-oriented mindset.
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or mechanical trade/vocational certification
- 4+ years of hands-on mechanical experience (bearing industry experience is a plus).
- Experience with the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of hydraulic systems is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with industrial PLC programming, simple logic controls, and/or electro-mechanical systems is desired.
Reporting
The Test Lab Technician position reports directly to the Sr. Engineering Manager Product and Testing

- The employee will be required to move throughout the building to collect, handle and process paperwork and materials.
